- I visited Portugal for 3 weeks about 4 1/2 years ago and had a great
- time. Im sure most guide books can give you an idea of a good place to
- stay in Lisbon. On the coast, I went to the village of Tavira, it's in
- the Algarve, near the Spanish border. Nice town on a small river with
- resturants and shops on the riverfront. There is also a market and there
- was entertainment outside on the weekends. To get to the beach you take
- a small ferry to an island just off the coast. This would be a nice
- place to relax, and you shoud have no trouble finding an inexpensive
- room. I can't remember the name of the place I stayed, but it was listed
- in Let's Go, and at the time cost around $13.00 a night. (It's across
- the river from the market, and has a nice rooftop patio)
-
- You also may want to head north to the mountains, starting in Oporto,
- up to Vienna del Castelo (sp?). I took a side trip to Villa Real, where
- Matues (sp?) wine is made. Theres a great train through the mountains
- called the Corgo line that takes you there.
-
- I hope this helps... Good luck.
