- We've had the problem you described where a STOP command seems to
- have no effect, for the past year or more.
- We run four servers, three with the BACKUP option.
- With BACKUP, a STOP command first does a control data backup then stops the
- server. If the backup does not start on its own within a minute then I
- issue a BACKUP command. If the backup then starts, sometimes the server will
- stop itself after the backup is complete. If the backup doesn't start, or
- if the backup runs but the server doesn't stop itself, then I do STOP
- IMMEDIATE, followed by FILESERV BACKUP. I've never had trouble getting
- a SFS server to come back up, when it was shutdown this way.
- We've used SFS heavily since it first came out in SP6, and have been quite
- happy with it since the early bugs were fixed.
