- Responsibilities
- The individual will provide administrative leadership for
- programs in a newly reorganized department leading to B.S.Ed.
- and M.A.T. teacher education degrees in early childhood,
- elementary, secondary, and special education; M.S. and Ed. D.
- degrees in early childhood, special education, reading,
- instructional design and technology; and instruction and
- curriculum. The chairperson shall provide leadership and vision
- for the department; communicate effectively with alumni and
- university colleagues; establish cooperative relationships with
- professional educators in schools, social agencies, private agencies,
- and higher education institutions; and provide sound management
- for the department's resources. Supplemental administrative
- support is planned, at the discretion of the new chair.

- Qualifications
- The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate in
- Education, possess personal and professional qualities of
- leadership and vision, have positive and dynamic interpersonal
- skills, have a demonstrated record of leadership in at least one
- curricular area offered by the department including experience
- working with diverse educational constituencies. The successful
- candidate must also possess administrative experience in higher
- education with a record of research, teaching, and service
- commensurate with the rank of associate or full professor, and
- have a strong commitment to teacher education in urban settings.

- Setting
- Memphis State University is a growing, comprehensive urban
- university serving over 21,000 students. Fully accredited by the
- Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Memphis State
- contains colleges of arts and sciences, business and economics,
- communication and fine arts, education, engineering, and schools
- of law and nursing. The University's campus is centrally located
- in an attractive residential area of Memphis, a major metropolitan
- area with a population of over one million.
- The College of Education is fully NCATE approved and includes
- departments of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Research,
- Instruction and Curriculum Leadership, Consumer Science and
- Education, Leadership, and Health, Physical Education and
- Recreation.
- One of five departments in the College of Education, the
- Department of Instruction and Curriculum Leadership has 40
- faculty offering undergraduate and graduate programs in early
- childhood, elementary, secondary, and special education, reading,
- instructional design and technology; and instruction and
- curriculum.

- Rank and Salary
- Tenure track associate or full professor; the salary is
- competitive.

- will be reviewed beginning March 1, 1993, and continue until the
- position is filled.
