- Michael,
- I think that you are right. You did forget to add that individuals asked out
- by others who are percieved as 'uglier' than themselves also tend to be
- more likely to reject the offer.
- There are also a lot of anecdotes (spelled right ?) about beautiful
- people getting together that might influence how some couples might be
- rated.
- What I would like to suggest is that the similarity of couples and friends
- goes beyond what they just look like. For example, individuals who have a
- tendency to dress up a lot would look for others who did the same. The
- result can in fact be a couple that looks pretty great!!! Whether they are
- attractive independent of their clothes can be another matter entirely. Of
- course the reverse of this might also be true.
- This can also be extended to social class in some situations. Individuals
- who are leading very impoverished lives tend to look hard, stressed, and
- much older than their years. Couples from a lower class may not look so
- very attractive.
- The matching data is correlational at best. There are just too many factors
- that could result in the pairing of like-looking people (attractiveness level
- included there).
