  14. I need the collective help of The PSYCGRAD community in a personal
  15. endeavor.  Please read on.
  16.  
  17. For those of you who don't know me, My name is Matthew Simpson.  I'm
  18. the person who founded and is managing The PSYCGRAD Project.  If I
  19. may ask those of you who are student affiliates of the APA for a
  20. favor, please read on.
  21.  
  22. The American Psychological Association Graduate Students (APAGS)
  23. are seeking nominations for office.  I have decided to nominate
  24. myself for the position of Chair-Elect.  However, only the top three
  25. people with the most nominations will be placed on the ballot.  This
  26. letter is to request your help in placing me on the ballot.

  28. If you are a graduate student and an affiliate of the APA, you
  29. are a member of the APAGS.  As such, I sincerely request your
  30. nomination.  Your nomination will have to be sent via the postal
  31. service to the address below.

  33. The deadline is January 31!  So if you are thinking about doing this,
  34. please take some time and do it now.  I need your help.
  35. You see, the University of Ottawa is in Canada.  Most of my peers
  36. are not affiliated with APA.  However, being born and raised in
  37. and around St. Louis MO, if have a vested interest in APA and APAGS.

  39. If you like The PSYCGRAD Project, like what I have provided here,
  40. and would like to see more of the same in the offices of the APAGS,

  49. BACKGROUND
  50. I was born and raised in and around St. Louis MO.  The B.A. was
  51. completed at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1989.
  52. I've been studying in the clinical program at the University of
  53. Ottawa for the past 3.5 years.  My course work is complete.
  54. Comps are to be done by August.  And internship starts in Sept.
  55. My focus is in behavioral medicine.  And, of course, one of my
  56. major projects has been the creation of The PSYCGRAD Project.
  57.  
  58. I apologize is this is a bit long-winded.  I don't want to go
  59. on and on about "me glorious me" (with a shrug).  I just wanted to
  60. tell you about the person who you may be nominating, as well
  61. as emphasize how important it is for me to get on the ballot by
  62. working through The PSYCGRAD Project.  The potential of the
  63. members of this list to collectively act is incredible, I think.
  64.  
  65. If elected, I will serve a three year mandate.  The first year will
  66. be as Chair-Elect, the second as Chair, the third as Past-Chair.
  67. The duties of the Chair-elect are to coordinate the activities of the
  68. Executive Board under the direction of the Chair.  The Executive Board
  69. meets three times each year.

  71. I sincerely hope that The PSYCGRAD Project serves as a good example
  72. of my abilities to, not only handle the job, but excel in it.  As you
  73. may have already guessed, one of my major ambitions in the job would
  74. be to bring the APAGS onto the internet and bitnet community, so that
  75. you could have better access to them in an on-line manner.  To do that,
  76. I need your nomination today.

  78. Also, if you would be so inclined to invite your peers who are not
  79. associated with The PSYCGRAD Project to also nominate me, it would be
  80. greatly appreciated.
