  26.         In the first half of  1993  I want to create some  redundancy
  27.         mechanism's for the sending and receiving of  mail.  At  this
  28.         moment, there's one node which  has  research.ptt.nl  on  the
  29.         local channel. All other hosts deliver outgoing mail  to  the
  30.         central host, which rewrite the address to:

  32.         Initials.Surname@research.ptt.nl
  33.  
  34.         All  incoming  mail  is  delivered  via the central mailhost,
  35.         which has the alias tables, and distributes the  mail  accor-
  36.         ding to the alias found.

  38.         Now I want to have two 'backup' systems for the central host,
  39.         one  running PMDF, one running sendmail. The questions I have
  40.         is:

  42.         1. is  it  possible to use the reverse database on the second
  43.            PMDF  system,  which  then  can send out the mail directly
  44.            without  sending  it  first  to the central system? Or are
  45.            there  any  objections against this setup? I think there's
  46.            no problem, but someone else might foresee some huge pro-
  47.            blems?

  49.         2. Is  it  possible  for  the second PMDF system to have also
  50.            research.ptt.nl  on  the  local  channel?  The problems is
  51.            otherwise,  I  think,  that  PMDF does no alias lookup for
  52.            incoming  mail,  isn't it? I want to list this system with
  53.            the second MX preference for our domain.

  55.         3. The same questions, but then for the sendmail system.

  57.         4. Is  there  any site running this kind of redundancy wihtin
  58.            their message handling?
