  22. Queens College of the City University of New York invites applications
  23. and nominations for the position of Chief Librarian, who also serves as
  24. Chair of the Library Department.  A distinguished liberal arts college
  25. serving 18,000 students, Queens College offers 56 bachelor's and 49 master's
  26. programs, and participates in the University's doctoral programs.  The
  27. student body reflects the culturally and ethnically diverse population of
  28. New York City's borough of Queens and the New York metropolitan area.

  30. The Chief Librarian, who reports to the Vice President for College Affairs,
  31. Planning, and Information Systems, is responsible for leadership and management
  32. of the Benjamin S. Rosenthal Library (the central library building), Music
  33. Library, and College Archives, all housed in new facilities.  The collection
  34. includes 600,000 volumes, 3,600 periodical subscriptions, substantial
  35. microform holdings, several CD-ROM databases, and non-print materials.  The
  36. Library uses the NOTIS integrated library system and has a full-time staff of
  37. 58, including 23 professionals.  It has an active instruction program and a
  38. strong commitment to library service.

  40. Responsibilities include coordinating and administering library programs,
  41. collections, services, and instruction, as well as maximizing utilization
  42. of staff resources through effective management of available resources and
  43. identification of alternative sources of funding for library development.
  44. The Chief Librarian should possess superior leadership and communication
  45. skills in dealing with faculty, students, staff, and the community while
  46. serving as an advocate for the library and articulating its mission.
  47. Qualified applicants must be able to manage the library budget and have
  48. knowledge of current trends in the application and implementation of
  49. automated and electronic information technology.

  51. An ALA-accredited MLS degree and a second master's degree are required;
  52. an earned doctorate is preferred.  Candidates must demonstrate accomplish-
  53. ments and credentials to qualify for appointment to the rank of professor
  54. or associate professor.  Administrative and supervisory experience is
  55. essential.

  57. Current salary ranges (including a $7,670 remuneration for administrative
  58. title): Professor, $53,980-$73,980; Associate Professor, $44,978-$62,849;
