- Here at the University of Delaware we're looking at running Notis's
- Infobase on a UNIX platform, and we have a couple of questions about the
- TAG software that will allow our MVS/CICS based Library management
- system to issue search requests to the UNIX Infobase system.
-
- Since we've been unable to get a technical person from Notis to return
- phone calls, I thought I'd try asking our questions here. (Note I'm not
- very familiar with Notis products, so apologies if I don't use the
- correct terminology!)
-
- We plan to run the TAG software on an RS/6000. We'll connect the TAG
- device to our MVS system via a token ring interface on a locally
- attached 3174 controller. According to the Notis documents titled "Tag
- Connection" and "Notis RS/6000 TAG installation instructions", this
- connection requires VTAM version 3.4, and in parenthesis says "supports
- multiple parallel sessions".
-
- We're currently running VTAM version 3.2, and because of time, effort,
- and expense would prefer not to upgrade our VTAM to 3.4 at this time.
- We also note that a TAG connected to a front end processor is documented
- to work with VTAM 3.2.
-
- The questions: Can this configuration of the TAG system operate in a
- VTAM 3.2 environment? If so, what are the limitations imposed by VTAM
- 3.2? Even if VTAM 3.4 is required, can we establish a connection for
- testing the TAG software/Infobase->CICS connections using VTAM 3.2?
- What does "supports multiple parallel sessions" mean?
-
- Any help anyone can give will be greatly appreciated!
-
- Thanks!
- Shawn.
