- Subject: Explanations for LOST and MISSING circulation statuses
- Lines: 26
-
- We're currently working on developing some explanatory materials to
- help users understand and interpret the STATUS: messages used in the
- OPAC to reflect circulation activity. I'm particularly interested
- in how others describe the LOST and REPORTED MISSING statuses.
-
- As we all know, charging to LOST pseudo patron to generate
- replacement costs and a bill does not mean the item is lost. Most
- of these items are returned...many of them within a week or two of
- the borrower being billed and/or having their privileges suspended.
-
- I'm inclined to encourage users to inquire about items with LOST or
- REPORTED MISSING status....so that staff can place holds or maybe
- even recalls (while some faculty have religious objections to
- responding to overdue notices or replacement bills, their creed does
- permit them to respond if another user needs the item).
-
- What sort of explanation do others provide either in online help or
- printed aids? Your comments are welcome....and I'd also accept
- copies of any printed aids that you have in machine readable form
- and could email.
