  13. Perhaps I should supply a description of the little "race" Eric and
  14. I have been running.

  16. 1) The list involved is NOVELL@SUVM.  It's large, 1,200+ subscribers
  17.    and active, 100+ postings per day on most week days.
  18.  
  19. 2) Approximately 1/3 of the subscribers have BITNET addresses.
  20.  
  21. 3) A second 1/3 have domain addresses served by a specific gateway
  22.    named in DOMAIN NAMES
  23.  
  24. 4) The remaining third have domain addresses served by SMTP@INTERBIT.
  25.    These addresses are routed through SMTP@SUVM by modifying
  26.    DOMAIN NAMES.
  27.  
  28. 5) The "start-line" for the race is the time stamp in the RFC822
  29.    Date: line of the SHORTBsmtp header as constructed by LISTSERV.
  30.  
  31. 6) The "finish-line" is the time stamp in the Received: line supplied
  32.    by the MTA making final delivery.
  33.  
  34. 7) The test addresses were placed approximately in the middle of the
  35.    list.
