  12. I am trying to install the VM Netnews package from Penn State and am
  13. having a problem that hopefully someone will recognize.  We are new to the
  14. Internet and have had a bunch of stuff all thrown at us at once (gophers,
  15. WAIS, archies, etc).  Compounding this, I am a VSE system programmer (not VM)
  16. and have tried to volunteer on some projects just to help some overworked
  17. staffers - I'm not really a network type (yet).

  19. Anyway, now that I've established my lack of credentials, on to the problem.
  20. We are trying to get a moderated nets list (AMERICAST.*) and are just today
  21. have started getting their feed.  The information is being received by the
  22. NNTPRCVR server as they appear on the 191 disk as NNTPRCVR B1 (B2, B3, etc).
  23. However I am not getting them over to the NEWNEWS server disk.  The CONFIG
  24. file is set up to hold them on the 100 minidisk.  The ADDGROUP command has
  25. been successfully executed for all the Groups.

  27. When I execute NETNEWS, I get a list of all the Groups that have been set up
  28. and it shows zero as the number of articles.  There seems to be at least nine
  29. transmissions currently accepted by the receiver.  I also made sure the
  30. NETNEWS server CONFIG file had the "Servers   NNTPRCVR" entry.  I also got
  31. the last years worth of archive looking for anything that would pertain to
  32. this problem (but unsuccessfully).

  34. Does any VM site person out there have some suggestions?  I'm sure I have
  35. done, or possibly haven't done and should, something in the setup/config.
  36. We have a limited time to review the Americast feed so I'm hitting the list
  37. sooner than I ordinarily would.   Thanks for any help.

  39. By the by, if anyone can send me a general writeup on Netnews (VM in parti-
  40. cular), or can tell me where one can be found, I would appreciate that. I'm
  41. not sure if I grasp all the concepts yet.
