- Thanks to all who responded to my request for readable AIDS
- journals. Here is a summary of the responses:
-
- It was suggested that checking NLM bibliographies on AIDS and a
- search in CINAHL might turn up some readable titles.
-
- AIDS Patient Care was mentioned by two people. It is from Mary Anne
- Liebert, Inc. Press, 1651 3rd Ave., NY,NY 10128. For $75.00 for six
- issues a year, it covers "all aspects of care, treatment, education
- and prevention. Submissions are from physicians, nurses,
- administrators, mental health professionals and others."
-
- The AIDS Information Sourcebook came highly recommended. It is in
- its third edition and lists 93 titles of periodicals pertaining to
- AIDS. Those recommended by one of its co-editors:
-
- The title above, AIDS Patient Care
-
- BETA. Bulletin of Experimental Treatments for AIDS. San Francisco
- AIDS Foundation, PO BOX 2189 Berkeley, C 94702-0189. This one is
- $25.00 and is geared toward the educated lay-person.
-
- AIDS Clinical Care. Massachusetts Medical Society & American
- Foundation for AIDS research. Medical Publishing Group, PO Box
- 9085, Waltham, MA 02254-9085. $80.00 Geared to health care
- professionals.
-
- The Advocate was highly recommended as a good popular/consumer
- journal covering all aspects of AIDS/HIV including treatment,
- awarding of grants, national, state and local initiaties,
- legislation, discrimination, insurance, funding, impact on/in
- schools, etc. It is the gay national and it was recommended that
- libraries order the "library" version sans personal ads so as to
- avoid being accused of "promoting" homosexuality.
-
- Another person recommended AIDS Targeted Information (Abstracts and
- Critical Comments from Current AIDS Literature) from Williams &
- Wilkins, PO Box 2391 Baltimore, Maryland 21203-9990. This
- recommendation came with the warning that it is not inexpensive.
-
- Another recommendation for the journal Treatment Issues, subtitled
- "The Gay Men's Health Crisis Newsletter of Experimental AIDS
- Therapies." came accross. It reviews published and in process
- research as well as experimental treatments. Designed for the
- professional or PWA who wants to keep up on new treatments.
- $50.00 Medical Information, GMHC, 129 West 20th St. NY,NY 10001.
- (212) 337-1950.
-
- Others mentioned include AIDS Treatment News, CDC AIDS Weekly,
- Healing AIDS and HIV/AIDS Surveillance, all covered in the AIDS
- Information Sourcebook.
-
- Thanks again everyone!
