  17.      My hunch, based on some current experience, is that such
  18. willingness is so much more powerfully constrained by the
  19. individual students' previous experience and by their
  20. constructions or understandings of the situation the revision is
  21. occurring in, that in practice we'll find it impossible to answer
  22. the question.  There is so much variation among my students with
  23. respect to these issues that even if I could factor the variation
  24. out I'm not confident the answer would be significant.  For years
  25. I assumed because the computer made so much difference to me it
  26. would make it for everyone.  I'm less and less convinced.
