- I agree that this is a transition period. Many of the resources that
- some of us are finding very useful, are very new and not universally
- accessible. It would be unrealistic to expect a complete retooling
- of the profession in such a short time.

- On the other hand, there is definitely a shift towards networks for
- distributing information. Libraries, and reference librarians in
- particular, will have more and more trouble meeting their mandates
- if they choose to ignore the nets as a resource. As long as this is
- clear and there is general acceptance that we are moving in this
- direction, I think we have grounds for agreement.

- However, I think that those who report encountering resistance are
- not deluded. There is a strain of conservatism or fear that tinges
- some of our colleagues' responses to this technology. The question
- is what are we going to do about it?
