  17. I would like to see some examples of the kind of questions that have been
  18. answered at reference desks or information service stations using
  19. databases on the Internet.
  20. How did you know what databases to try; how did you think of such a choice
  21. at the exclusion of Dialog, Lexis (and the like) or CD-Roms and so forth?
  22. You may well wonder why I ask this publicly rather than simply dive in
  23. and try it out.  Well, the few instances when I have dived in I have
  24. found little that suggested itself as a source of useful reference material
  25. that I could not find more easily and without getting cut off by the
  26. communication line.
  27. I want to learn more about these services, but the attempt to learn seems
  28. about as easy as nailing jelly to the wall.
  29. If some of you have had better success you might share what you have learned,
  30. which would give us more cautious folk a chance to appreciate your pioneering
  31. efforts.
  32. By the way, I find Rick Gates's monthly contest results reports more useful
  33. now, but I have not encountered the questions that would help call to mind
  34. those marvelous databases.
