- Steve,
- As of now the toster is only AMIGA 2000 plug compatible ready. Which means
- if you get a higher model, it should still work but you'll have to buy an
- adapter (toaster coazy) I believe it's called. If you get a 2000 you will
- also want to buy an accelerator for it 68030 or preferable a 68040 based
- accelator board. If you go for the 030 look at the VECTOR accelerator IMHO it
- offers the best features. The VECTOR will allow you to use memory and
- a Harddrive on board in 68000 mode if you decide to boot into 68000 mode to
- run an older piece of software that won't run on an 030 or just runs to fast.
- You'll probably want to get a relatively large HardDrive. If you are going to
- be doing extensive Video work. A good combination I would recomend would be
- a 300 meg non-removable SCSI and an 88mb removable SCSI so you can switch
- disks for wxtra storage. Of course most of this depends on budget. If you
- want to stay top of the line on the Amiga model side go with the A4000.
- But I'll have to concede that I'm not sure if the Toaster is fully compatible.
- I've never tried it on a 4000. (* Any 4000 users out there care to comment. *)
- There are some nice toster ready worstations for sale already check your
- latest AmigaWorld issue for pricing. But putting your own system together will
- probably be a little less expensive.
-
- Here's a system I'd rcommend. (Please don't flame this is only an opinion.
-
- A2000 base system...... price $700 [All prices are approximate.]
- Toaster price (Not sure... mmmm maybe $1099]
- Vector board no memory or HD price $649
-
- 300 meg HD probalby around. $420
-
- 88 mb removable SCSI price $510
-
- memory for Vector industry standard simms... prices vary .. check memory world.
-
- 1084s monitor $259 <--- I think haven't even looked
- for these in 4 yrs.
-
- Well I hope this helps a little I'm sure it'll be a bit confusing.....
-
- If you have any questions about what I've said just write me direct at
- IN%"landas88@snypotva.bitnet" , and I'll be glad to answer them.
-
- I'm sure many others on the list will have different oppinions on what system
- you'll want to get..
