  11. I don't know what the old reply was but you ought to check for any earth
  12. loops, this can cause either hum or distortion. The way your mains plug is
  13. wired could be the difference between yours and your friends machine. On
  14. similar related things test screening cables. Did you use your friends
  15. cables? etc. etc.
