  13. My experience living and working in Germany in 1982-83: when in a country too 
  14. small to have dubbed American TV programs (e.g., Holland or Denmark) talking to
  15. a teenager was little different than talking to a teenager (in English, that 
  16. is) in a suburb of the U.S.  The popular culture clearly reinforced the English
  17. instruction given in the schools.
