-
- Welcome to JASON On-Line!
-
- On February 22, this forum will begin delivering reports from an
- expedition site in Baja California. On a daily (or bi-daily) basis,
- reports about ongoing research and adventure will appear here.
-
- This year, the scientists of the JASON Project, under the direction of Dr.
- Robert Ballard (renowned for finding the wrecks of the Titanic and the
- Bismarck) will observe gray whales in San Ignacio lagoon and
- chemosynthetic tube worms one mile beneath the surface of the Gulf of
- California (Sea of Cortez).
-
- Readers of JASON On-Line will read daily accounts from the research sites
- - accounts directly from the scientists, students, and technicians. These
- reports will appear here before the newspapers. Readers are invited to
- send questions to the researchers via this forum, and the scientists'
- answers will be printed in the subsequent reports.
-
- JASON On-Line is designed to be read by teachers of the 1993 JASON
- Curriculum (produced by the National Science Teachers Association). It is
- expected that these teachers will share what they read with their students
- and pass their students' observations and questions back to JASON On-Line
- so that they can be shared.
-
- All teachers are welcome to read the reports share the excitement and
- adventure of science and technology with their students.
-
- JASON on the Internet
-
- To supplement the NSTA JASON Curriculum and the March 1-13
- JASON Downlink, the JASON Foundation in cooperation with CERFnet
- has created an Internet mailing list to allow teachers to read daily
- updates about the expedition and communicate with each other long
- after the downlink.
-
- To access this information you need to have an account on the
- Internet. If you already have an account, send mail to
- JASON-request@cerf.net for a subscription to two mailing lists. The
- first list, jason@cerf.net, will have reports straight from the NSTA
- regarding findings during the project. The second list, jason-
- discuss@cerf.net, will allow you to discuss findings with other
- Internet participants.
