  14. We are reviewing our university's policies regarding smoking.  I suspect
  15. that there is a good deal of discussion taking place on many campuses
  16. and would like to know what decisions are being reached.  In particular,
  17. we are discussing the meaning of "private" offices:  Is a faculty
  18. member's office private if students, in the normal course of events,
  19. must visit those rooms?  Likewise, administrators' offices.  The
  20. following questions, by way of a hastily contrived survey, come to mind:

  23. --- Do you now allow smoking in faculty offices?
  24.  
  25. --- Do you now allow smoking in administrator's offices?
  26.  
  27. --- Do you now allow smoking in public eating areas?
  28.  
  29. --- Do you now allow smoking in public reading/study lounge areas?
  30.  
  31. --- Do you now allow smoking in classrooms?
  32.  
  33. --- Do you now allow smoking in hallways/stairwells?
  34.  
  35. --- Is the legislature in your state currently considering regulations
  36.     which would further curtail smoking in "public" places?
  37.  
  38. --- Is your campus likely to further restrict smoking in the near future
  39.     (e.g., reduce the number of designated smoking areas)?
  40.  
  41. --- Is consideration being given to establishing a "smoke-free campus"
  42.     at your college or university?
  43.  
  44.  
  45. Any information received, either by direct response to the above or by
  46. comment, will be appreciated.  If you can think of a question I should
  47. have asked, please answer it.  If I get a substantial number of
  48. responses, I will post the results to the net.  Please forgive the
