- We are reviewing our university's policies regarding smoking. I suspect
- that there is a good deal of discussion taking place on many campuses
- and would like to know what decisions are being reached. In particular,
- we are discussing the meaning of "private" offices: Is a faculty
- member's office private if students, in the normal course of events,
- must visit those rooms? Likewise, administrators' offices. The
- following questions, by way of a hastily contrived survey, come to mind:
-
-
- --- Do you now allow smoking in faculty offices?
-
- --- Do you now allow smoking in administrator's offices?
-
- --- Do you now allow smoking in public eating areas?
-
- --- Do you now allow smoking in public reading/study lounge areas?
-
- --- Do you now allow smoking in classrooms?
-
- --- Do you now allow smoking in hallways/stairwells?
-
- --- Is the legislature in your state currently considering regulations
- which would further curtail smoking in "public" places?
-
- --- Is your campus likely to further restrict smoking in the near future
- (e.g., reduce the number of designated smoking areas)?
-
- --- Is consideration being given to establishing a "smoke-free campus"
- at your college or university?
-
-
- Any information received, either by direct response to the above or by
- comment, will be appreciated. If you can think of a question I should
- have asked, please answer it. If I get a substantial number of
- responses, I will post the results to the net. Please forgive the
- cross-posting if you see this more than once. Thanks in advance.
