  15. I'm a regular reader of circplus, usually not posting, but replying to sender
  16. on some of the survey items.  Circ folk seem to be reasonably flameproof, and
  17. ever so playful.
  18.  
  19. For the record, I have an M.L.S., and double in reference, bibliographic
  20. instruction, and library governance arenas, but as circ coordinator I consider
  21. myself one of the warehousemen (politically incorrect, but I just turned fifty
  22. and have given myself a curmudgeon license).

  24. My experience is that librarians without M.L.S. are often more effective than
  25. some with M.L.S.  My mother was such a librarian, having taken a statewide
  26. exam for librarian in New Jersey in the thirties.  She had finished high
  27. school at night while working to help support her family, and the exam posting
  28. did not indicate an education requirement.  She scored eighth in the state,
  29. and was the only one who passed who did not have a library degree.  She served
  30. as a librarian in a branch of the Jersey City P.L., but migrated to California
  31. in late 1940.  Her exam standing was, of course, not transferable, so she
  32. packed crackers until shortly before I was born, then did the full time Mama
  33. bit.  Spunky lady; I miss her.

  35. I didn't mean to get into that, just to say I appreciate the playfulness of
  36. Circplus as well as the solid information content.
