- I read that the "Aladdin" creators envisioned Williams as the Genie from the
- start. They made a short animated segment of the Genie using some of Williams'
- stand-up routines. They showed it to Williams to entice him to play the role
- and to Jeffrey Katzengerg at Disney to convince him Williams was right for
- the part. It was a departure for Disney -- to appeal to a wider audience --
- but a risk that is now paying off in box office returns.
