  19. I read that the "Aladdin" creators envisioned Williams as the Genie from the
  20. start. They made a short animated segment of the Genie using some of Williams'
  21. stand-up routines. They showed it to Williams to entice him to play the role
  22. and to Jeffrey Katzengerg at Disney to convince him Williams was right for
  23. the part. It was a departure for Disney -- to appeal to a wider audience --
  24. but a risk that is now paying off in box office returns.
