  17. I've never seen more than the chariot race from the original Ben Hur, but
  18. some revisionist opinion in this instance, too, says it was better than the
  19. inflated and often boring remake.  (Original was with Ramon Navarro in the
  20. Heston role... surely *you* remember *him*?)  I don't know.  The Wyler-
  21. Heston Ben Hur is often flabby, pious and sentimental (but hey, the "classic"
  22. novel was no great shakes), but has some real basic storytelling virtues.
  23. It keeps you watching if you're in an undemanding and receptive mood.
