- I have just set up a local list for discussion of mass media related topics at
- Central Michigan University. Althouygh we have several hundred students taking
- mass media courses very few have had any prior experience with the use of lists
- and only a handful have ever used the campus mainframe. Probably only slightly
- more have their own computers. I notice there are many students using this
- list. Perhaps you could help me in developing a strategy to encourage CMU mass
- media students to use our local list (which will probably result in many of
- them eventually subscribing to lists like CINEMA-L, TV-L,SCREEN-L, and others.)
-
-
-
- I would welcome any advice, but I would especially like to know:
-
- (1) How students now using this list have come to be here. Did you have some
- sort of prior computer-related experiences that cuased you to look for a media
- list along with others or was your initial interest in mass media and did that
- lead you to find out how to access BITNET lists?
-
- (2) How do you access this list? Do you do it from yor home with a modem?
- From a campus computer cluster?
-
- (3) What do you think would be effective ways of getting students without
- personal computers to use our list? (Perhaps this means convincing them to
- buy one.)
-
- There are probably other things I should be asking, but not knowing how most
- students came to be here to begin with I am shooting in the dark.
