- We have noticed similar things with the current version of ProQuest
- (2.42). If a number of users are simultaneously searching a given
- UMI database, we end up with memory problems at the CBIS CD-Server.
- Under most circumstances, the server console gives a series of
- "Insufficient memory for user file", and if the load then drops (on
- the UMI product), the server goes back to normal. If the condition
- persists for some time, it is possible to bring the server to a
- screeching halt. We load QEMM at the server and have regularly had
- this condition cause fatal QEMM errors as well. To combat this
- problem (and to significantly speed performance) we have placed our
- two most popular UMI products (ABI and Periodical Abs) on our file
- server hard disks. I will be very interested in seeing if this makes
- any difference in the operation of 4.0.
-
- Our current configuration is 2 CD-Connection CD-Servers, each with
- Mylex '486/33 motherboards, each with 16Mb RAM.
