  14. Project EASI, Equal Access to Software and Information,  has just
  15. started a new electronic discussion list on disability access to
  16. libraries.  Dick Banks from U. Wisconsin at Stout will be its
  17. moderator.  Anyone wanting to join the list or get further
  18. information about it should contact Dick rbanks@uwstout.edu.

  20.       EASI is starting the list to:
  21.  
  22. 1.  provide a forum to share questions and answers about how to
  23. make
  24.  
  25. 2.  provide a platform from which to reach libraries which are not
  26. yet considering seriously the question of access for users with
  27. disabilities.
  28.  
  29. 3.  provide a platform from which to lobby vendors of electronic
  30. library services to create tools that are already highly
  31. accessible.
  32.  
  33. 4.  encourage electronic networks and network information services
  34. to make their facilities as accessible as possible to users with
  35. disabilities.
  36.  
  37. 5.  create and provide EASI services to assist campus libraries and
  38. information providers with resources to assist them in becoming
  39. more disability accessible.
  40.  
  41.      The print handicapped have the possibility of making ready use
  42. of libraries for the first time.  Mobility impaired persons have
  43. the possibility of making use of libraries without travel.  It is
  44. important that these new electronic services be built from the
  45. ground up with access awareness rather than having to become
  46. modified later.  Please join us in this important task.
