- This probably re-hashes old stuff, any summaries are welcome.
-
- I'm using SMTP to talk to the world. However, some "postmasters"
- out there claim my return addresses choke their systems. They
- mention that:
- tom=gray%netadmin%css@css.unc.edu
-
- is "BAD" because the "=" means something to their system. They also
- want to know why it can't be replaced with the underscore.
-
- Page 1-9 of the SMTP Gate manual states (under common syntax rules)
- that "The characters @,!,%,", and = are significant. The manual
- doesn't state what to do about it.
-
- Easy way out is to create nicknames, but since some of my group
- names contain spaces (MHCRC Center@Psychiatry, MR Core@BDRC) this means
- losing some of the advantages of StreetTalk.
-
- IS THIS A FUNDAMENTAL PROBLEM WITH SMTP? Are these other systems
- just "whining"?
-
- respond to:
- thomas=c.=gray%netadmin%css@css.unc.edu
-
- or if YOUR mailer can't handle it, try
- tom@css.unc.edu
