- I cannot answer your question Mike, but I have a question and a need for
- clarification. You mention that SMTP does not understand MX records. Do you
- mean to say it does not check for them once the A record is found? I have
- recently had many problems with SMTP and have found 2 bugs - one is related
- to MX records. I am not a UNIX person (yet!) so some of my questions may be
- at the beginner level. My name server (and default gateway) is a DEC
- workstation running ultrix. It is timing out on the SMTP gateway for reasons
- unknown. I sent a sniffer dump to Banyan and they said it had something to
- do with our nameserver looking for a syn (or sync) and not finding it - this
- causes the nameserver to disconnect and SMTP log shows failure/deferred action.
- Does this make any sense to you? Any information/education will really help.
-
- I was also speaking to one of the product managers from Banyan at Networld and
- he mentioned that a full rewrite of the SMTP gateway is underway. He
- mentioned the new gateway will be SMTP and x.400 compliant and will support
- MYME (sp). I offer my usual support in this area of development as most of
- my community are outside or 800+ Banyan users (400+ macintosh and 1200
- terminal/workstation users). Let's also hope that STDA is fully integrated
- into the SMTP Gateway; seeing that I have a medium inclusion list.
-
- Thanks for listening...
