- Hi Guys,
-
- My first time on the list! Here's my 0.02$ worth about loading the Mircosoft
- mouse driver in high memory :
-
- 1. As far as i know only one program can use the HMA.
- 2. I don't know of any switch to load the mouse driver into the HMA.
- 3. If you COULD load the mouse driver into HMA it would still be more efficient
- to load a part of DOS in the HMA since the mouse driver would only use 16K.
- 2. Probably you've confused HMA and UMA here. The documentation of Microsoft
- itself isn't very clear on this. In the doc file about the 8.x mouse driver
- they write :
- "the loadhigh or devicehigh command can be used to load the mouse driver in
- high memory."
- I guess this should read : "to load the mouse driver in the Upper Memory
- Area".
- 3. There are two switches that you can use to load the 8.x mouse driver in UMB
- or in EMS : to load the driver in UMB the /U switch can be used. To load
- the driver in EMS the /E switch can be used. If you use the /E switch the
- mouse driver will use 3.8K in low memory and 16K in EMS. If you load all
- of the driver in low memory it will use 16.4K.
-
- I don't know if the driver works well when loaded in EMS. Never tried it
- myself ...
