- I do agree with you that most "alternative" music is pretty mainstream
- today. With the success of Nirvana, Helmet, and all the other so called
- "alternative" bands making it big on mtv and the like. Though I do
- disagree with you about hesitating to call NoMeansNo an "alternative" band.
- As much as I hate to use that word, and as much as that word has been
- exploited, and invalidated they still are an alternative band. By
- alternative I mean they don't just adhere to one type of music. They are
- constently catching you off guard, and though I like some of thier punkier
- music better they still play a good mix.
- If you want to get some truly "alternative" music check out bands like
- Pinhead Gunpowder, J Church, Green Day, and countless other punk and
- hardcore bands that are on independent labels or put thier music out
- themselves. Afterall DIY (doing it yourself) is the most "alternative" thing
- you can do to avoid the mainstream.
