- Head on to the chorus:
-
- Dead skunk in the middle of the road
- Dead skunk in the middle of the road
- Dead skunk in the middle of the road
- Stinking to high heaven
-
- Wanna guess the title? ;-)
-
- Was this Ray Stevens?

- To which ROTCOD ZZAJ grinches:
-
- >What people deem them "Alternative." Tell us WHAT that means.
-
- Well, Dick, how about record store personnel, DJs, musicians?
- Not much cause for flaming, as far as I know. If you're trying to say
- that there are some things that are way farther out than "alternative"
- I'm certainly with you. In fact a (so far as I know never-used)
- definition on GRUNGE-L of "alternateen" is pejorative.

-
- No. I think the music "marketplace" is fragmenting and there isn't any
- mainstream any more. This is partly the fault of radio station formats
- which are more geared toward demographics than toward an individual
- Program Director's taste, and partly the result of the wide diversity
- of popular music.
-
- However, I find myself incapable of the self-absorption that seems to
- be necessary to fully appreciate the Cure. Phony, but highly probable
- quote from Robert (Bubba) Smith: "Success is quite lovely, you know.
- It makes me think of death."

-
- Sub Pop for me (assuming you're talking about wheat/chaff, not overall
- quality output per year, in which case Sony is probably a safer, if
- duller, choice).
-
- Yah-hoooo! Just listened again to Bernstein's _Candide_ (1989 revision
- with Adolf Green as Pangloss, June Anderson as Cunegonde). What a
- simply wonderful piece (show? opera? operetta?)!
-
- OK, *real* ignorant question here -- who wrote the music for _A Funny
- Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum_? Was is Sondheim, or did he
- just do the lyrics? Did anyone but me notice the echoes of _Candide_
- (especially "The Best of All Possible Worlds") in _Funny Thing_?
