  48. Not much cause for flaming, as far as I know.  If you're trying to say
  49. that there are some things that are way farther out than "alternative"
  50. I'm certainly with you.  In fact a (so far as I know never-used)
  51. definition on GRUNGE-L of "alternateen" is pejorative.

  58. No.  I think the music "marketplace" is fragmenting and there isn't any
  59. mainstream any more.  This is partly the fault of radio station formats
  60. which are more geared toward demographics than toward an individual
  61. Program Director's taste, and partly the result of the wide diversity
  62. of popular music.

  64. However, I find myself incapable of the self-absorption that seems to
  65. be necessary to fully appreciate the Cure.  Phony, but highly probable
  66. quote from Robert (Bubba) Smith: "Success is quite lovely, you know.

  77. Sub Pop for me (assuming you're talking about wheat/chaff, not overall
  78. quality output per year, in which case Sony is probably a safer, if
  79. duller, choice).

  82. with Adolf Green as Pangloss, June Anderson as Cunegonde).  What a
  83. simply wonderful piece (show? opera? operetta?)!

  86. Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum_?  Was is Sondheim, or did he
  87. just do the lyrics?  Did anyone but me notice the echoes of _Candide_
  88. (especially "The Best of All Possible Worlds") in _Funny Thing_?
