  13.   Does anyone here have any pointers for information on Japanese
  14. releases (specifically unauthorized releases where the artists see
  15. no royalties)?  I'm curious as to how these Japanese record companies
  16. manage to avoid the wrath of BMI, ACSAP and other such organizations.
  17. Are they somehow exempt from international copyright laws?  I know
  18. that the RIAA was in a tizzy over the numerous CD rental stores in
  19. Japan, but that's nothing compared to releasing whole albums of 
  20. material by an artist without paying any royalties whatsoever. How
  21. are they getting away with this?
