- As part of my rock 'n' roll class I just finished reading Ishmael
- Reed's _Mumbo Jumbo_. Wow, what a hell of a book. Enough to make me
- seriously consider HooDoo religion and hope in earnest for a visit
- from Erzulie. ;-)> (By the way, for an idea into Erzulie's nature just
- pay attention to Libby Doe's posts.) The main emphahsis is to
- present the African-American additions to American culture in a
- spiritualistic way that presents a sort of universal, history
- spanning battle between the followers of the Atonist path and Jes
- Grew. It is set the 1920' during the Harlem Rennaissance.
- Jazz and Blues play very heavily into Jes Grew and are seen as
- a modern incarnate of the religion, originally an invention of
- Osiris. Really cool. Really spiritual. Still trying to make sense
- of all the images involved. So I appologize if this seems
- disjointed. Suffice to say, I highly reccomend this book. It's good
- for your souls, folks!
