- Greetings: I come from minicomputer background. On these machines
- 'others' have only execute permission at the root and these permissions
- are passed down to the directories below them. I would like to have
- such restrictions on my unix system. I don't want general users
- to 'cd ..' to the top of afile system and be able to do a 'ls'
- and see what else is there. Also they can then do a 'cd ..' to root
- and also do a 'ls ' and see the whole setup of directories. If I
- set --x 'others' at the root or filesystem that they are on ex. /home,
- they can't run some software. Is there a way that I can restrict users
- as I have mentioned? Does anyone else feel that this general listing
- openess is a problem?
-
- Thanks,
- Jim
