-
- I just spent a couple of hours at the Geac booth with Doug. He said
- that the MAJOR changes with 5.0 are in the OPAC, but there is no working
- display of 5.0. Just a "demo" that EXPLAINS the differences, but does
- not actually show it!
-
- I showed Doug a couple of bugs in the serials system that he wasn't
- aware of, so they will (obviously) not be fixed with 5.0. Included
- were: If you create a serials check-in record first, you CANNOT go back
- and link an acquisitions record to the serial checkin record. You CAN
- link the two if you START from the acquisitions record, but not the
- reverse (it will end up creating a new holding which is not part of the
- original serial check-in record). You must use the SERIAL PUBLICATION
- and TRANSER options from the acquisitions module.
-
- There is SUPPOSED to be better MODIFICATION of searches in the OPAC,
- but since there is no 5.0 working module, I could not see it. There is
- also supposed to be better local control over screen displays.
-
- Rumor: Support for Geac Advance is going to be shifted to the Boston
- area (CLSI home).
-
- Geac reception is tonight. Last night Bob from Oregon State, Valerie
- Bross from CSU Stanislaus, and a couple of others of us went out to the
- Rock Bottom Bar for dinner. It was quite good.
-
- There are numerous buttons against prop 2 being handed out. There was
- also some rally today (against it).
-
- There was great dissatisification with the arrangements here from the
- very start. Hotel reservations messed up, conference rooms changed
- without notice, inadequate conference rooms & accomodations, etc. I
- believe that ALA is too large to be held here again, whether or not prop
- 2 is an issue.
-
- -- I'll be returning tomorrow.
