- We have received a proposal to assume adminstrative responsibility for
- an existing mailing list called BNFNET-L. The current list maintainer
- will retain his position as discussion leader of BNFNET-L.
-
- Proposed USENET name: bionet.biology.n2-fixation
- E-mail address: BNFNET-L
-
- Discussion will now be open through 7 February on
- BIOFORUM/bionet.general (*not* on BIONEWS/bionet.announce).
-
- Please do not post one-line messages saying only "I am in favor of
- such a newsgroup". We will collect votes later. The discussion
- period is an opportunity for anyone to bring up reservations about the
- proposed charter and to propose modifications prior to the vote. The
- discussion leader may submit a revised proposal in light of the
- discussion, and the new charter would be included in the call for votes
- which will go out on 8 February.
-
- Please be aware that only one vote is counted per e-mail address, so
- it is necessary to have your own account in order to vote. Multiple
- votes from the same address are not accepted. If you are interested
- in the following newsgroup, but do not have an e-mail address of your
- own, please obtain one from your computer center before the call for
- votes is issued.

- BNFNET-L aims
- (a) to provide a forum for the exchange of information and
- discussions on scientific research, activities and
- experiences on biological nitrogen fixation.
- (b) to serve as a bulletin board for announcements of forthcoming
- conferences, reviews of publications, profiles of
- organizations, etc.
- (c) to act as the general list for the Biological Nitrogen
- Fixation Electronic Network.
-
- Biological Nitrogen Fixation Electronic Network (BNFNET) was
- established in 1990 by UNESCO's MIRCEN (Microbial Resources
- Center) Network for Environmental, Applied Microbiological and
- Biotechnological Research. BNFNET aims to (i) foster better
- communication and cooperation among MIRCENs and between MIRCENs
- and other organizations, (ii) encourage and help laboratories and
- individuals to use e-mail for communications in BNF (iii) help
- researchers to identify resources of culture collections.
