- That's ALL it takes?? Bob, a lot more goes into planning an event
- than just posting a date and time...
-
- Also, regarding the rest of your postng: Everyone is welcome to
- attend public events. But, like any other social situation, only certain
- types of personalities fit in. The range of "certain personalities"
- is huge but, I doubt that someone like TIna would feel comfortable
- after the first gathering or two. She'd probably feel out of place
- and so would those at the boink. Of course, what naturally happens is
- that the 'outsider' may find someone to talk to, but realistically, not
- too likely.
-
- There are many people in ba.singles with whom I get along and
- really enjoy seeing and talking with. There are also many people in ba.singles
- with whom I don't get along. I don't like them and they don't like me.
- If a boink was thrown and, by chance, only these people and I showed up,
- I'd leave after 15 minutes...
-
- Two good stories: years ago, I had an ongoing flamefight with a guy
- from New Jersey (while I was in DC). It was as bitter as you some of
- what transpires in ba.singles. Finally, we met at a boink in NJ (the one
- thrown by the Slime Sisters right before their leader emigrated to CA).
- Anyway, he and I actually became friends and have socialized often since then.
- Story number 2: Another person and I had similar flame fights. We met in
- person and found each other tolerable but no special fondness between us.
- We now say 'hello' to each other and that's about it when meeting at events.
-
- A boink is like any other social gathering with the added feature that you've
- communicated before. What will happen is up to the personalities
- involved. As far as I know, no serious arguments or fighting have ever
- occured at an event. But, I assure you: I ALWAYS consider that such an
- altercation COULD break out whenever I plan an event.
