  14. I am native to this area and a long time Oakland resident -
  15. I live right along the lake and I get to enjoy
  16. the necklace of the lights around the lake every evening
  17. from my apartment window.  That string of lights originated
  18. pre WWII but was forced to be turned out furing the blackouts
  19. that came with that war and due to years of neglect were
  20. finally removed.  The Lake Merritt Breakfast Club - a group of
  21. Oakland Business owners raised close to a million dollars 
  22. a few years back to install the original lamp post and that
  23. is what is on display around the lake now - it is a beautiful
  24. sight.

  26. As for restaurants:  Right along the lake is ZZA's - a fine and
  27. very loud Italian Restaurant.  They are very MOTSS friendly.

  29. I find many great eating establishments in this city and recently
  30. have gotten so involved with diwcovering different neighborhoods
  31. in this beautiful city that I rarely go to SF any more.
