  20. I actually like the whole downtown/Lake Merritt area. I stayed many
  21. a night in Broadway Terrace allowing me to discover Holmes Bookstore and
  22. the restorations going on around Jack London Square. There is a terrific
  23. oyster bar on E. 14th.

  25. Lake Merritt, with its art deco apartment buildings and curvaceous 
  26. boulvards, has a beautiful park with the Alameda county hall and
  27. Oakland Museum at one end and the Grand Lake theatre at the other
  28. end. I actually rented a paddle boat there once.
