- This morning on the Today show, NBC announced that there would be a
- program tonight called "The Gay Nineties" at 10 pm on NBC. It's billed
- as an "in-depth" look at the issues that concern and occupy the gay
- and lesbian community.
-
- The show is hosted by Maria Shriver. Katherine Couric (the Today show
- cohost) interviewed Maria about the show. Maria termed the subject
- "fascinating" and "interesting." She also explained that even though
- it was not the show's intent to out anyone, at least one male couple
- announces itself on air. Both men expect to lose their jobs as a
- result of this program. The program also profiles what one woman goes
- through before she comes out to her coworkers. Although she expects
- the worst, the coworkers respond very positively.
-
- In the interview, Maria appeared very comfortable with the subject
- matter. Katie Couric has often seemed to me to be very sympathetic to
- glbo* issues. Her interview with Ted Kennedy this morning covered the
- topic of lifting the ban against gays and lesbians in the military and
- both she and Ted seemed well versed in the subject.
-
- Now if only Katie and Maria wouldn't use the term "homosexual" to talk
- about lesbian and gay issues...
