- Well, based on the several recommendations here, I decided to take
- my daughter and hie us over to Yiasoo tonight. Boy am I glad that we
- did!
-
- We went to the De Anza Blvd. location. This location is a few blocks
- "west" [who can tell in this area? :-)] of the 280 Sunnyvale/Saratoga exit.
- As you are heading "west", it is on the left, so you will have to make
- a u-turn (it's on the same side of the street as the Peppermill).
-
- We had the good fortune to be at the location where the wife-half of
- the owner couple was. What a sweetheart she is! Her name is Roula
- [pronounced sort of like "ruler", only "rulah"].
-
- First off, Yiasoo doesn't claim itself to be a fancy, elegant purveyor
- of Mediterranian (sp?) cuisine. Their menu says "Welcome to a new
- experience of fast food". Well, let me say that even as Med. cuisine
- the food here's not half bad. As 'fast food', it's great!
-
- And fast.
-
- Their sandwich plates include a small greek salad [very fresh
- ingredients] and fries, for $5.75. I didn't want fries, so Roula let me
- substitute a bowl of avgalemeno soup instead [it was tasty...not *quite*
- as lemony as I like it, but tasty.]
-
- My daughter and I each had a Gyro Plate. Quite tasty...my daughter
- gave it the highest compliment a 14 year old could, and dubbed it
- "better than Jack-in-the-Box" :-)
-
- Next time we go [and we will, believe me] I think I'll try the mousaka.
- They also have a 1/2 a roasted chicken dinner for $5.25, or you can
- take home a whole roasted chicken for $5.45 (!).
-
- We also took dessert to go. I had the "cinnamon puffs"..small soft
- doughnut hole kinda things with cinnamon and sugar and steeped in a thin
- honey. My daughter had the baklava...and said it was great [as she did
- the 1/2 of my cinnamon puffs she ate. :-)]
-
- The Yiasoo on DeAnza is open seven days a week, 11am through 9:30pm.
- They are also opening a Yiasoo Cafe near Mervyn's near Steven's Creek
- and DeAnza, which will apparently be serving breakfast, etc.
-
- Anyway, in case you can't tell...we liked the place. :-) I recommend
- you give it a try. Tell Roula that Anne with the 14 year old daughter
- sent you. :-)
