  12. I wonder if others saw the review of the Berkeley restaurant
  13. The Fourth Street Grill in the _Chronicle_ today (1-27-93).
  14. I have never read such a vituperative restaurant review, and
  15. I find the review TOTALLY contrary to my own extensive
  16. experience of The Fourth Street.  According to the reviewer,
  17. the kitchen can barely cook, the staff arehardly competent,
  18. and diners cannot hear their own conversations.  I discovered
  19. The Fourth Street about four months ago and have driven over
  20. from San Francisco to have dinner there once or twice a week
  21. since.  (It does help that I have friends in Berkeley who joint
  22. me.)  To me the food has been consistently interesting, well
  23. cooked, and well presented, and the restaurant has the most
  24. relaxed and interestingly mixed atmosphere of any I know in
  25. the Bay Area.  When I have friends visiting from Europe, I
  26. invariably take them there, as the best place to show them why
  27. dining out in California is special.

  29. If others who read this newsgroup have recent experiences of
  30. The Fourth Street, I would be very interested whether their views
  31. are closer to mine or to those of the _Chronicle_ reviewer.
