  13. No discussion of East Bay breakfast is complete without mention of
  14. LOIS THE PIE QUEEN!

  16. They have home cooking style breakfasts. I typically have 2 eggs,
  17. grits, and homemade biscuits for $3.75. There are lots of other
  18. choices including sausage, ham, links, bacon, pork chops, waffles, hot
  19. cakes, and fried chicken. Lunch is also served, and dinner is served
  20. on Sundays (I've never gone for anything but breakfast.)

  22. The best part is the homemade baked goods, which vary, but typically
  23. include some kind of muffin, and:
  24.  Sweet Potato, Apple, Pecan, Mixed Berry, and Lemon Icebox Pie
  25.  and Peach Cobbler
  26. Eat at least one of these per visit for maximum enjoyment.
  27. None of them are typical. I particularly enjoy her take on Sweet
  28. Potato Pie. The Peach Cobbler is a breakfast by itself.

  30. The food is great and portions are generous. Service is friendly.
  31. There is a counter as well as tables. Lois' has a pleasant
  32. neighborhood atmosphere with none of the yuppie cafe feeling shared by
  33. many of the other places mentioned in this thread. It is usually not
  34. crowded; weekends are busier.

  37. North Oakland. This is one block west of Martin Luther King Way, and
  38. there is a small black and white sign at the corner of MLK and 60th to
  39. help you out. Nearest freeway exit: CA-24 to MLK.
