- OPEN FORUM Discussion Groups Starting in February
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Open Forum, an educational project located in San Francisco begins its
- new series in February 1993. Each group meets for once a week for about
- eight weeks. Our telephone number is 415-552-2993. This message
- provides a description of Open Forum, and follows with the titles of
- eight discussion groups offered in this winter/spring's series.

- What is Open Forum?
- ******************************************************************************
-
- Open Forum offers collective discussion groups on a wide range of
- political, economic, cultural, social and historical issues. We are
- committed to developing collective learning, critical thinking, and
- practical leadership skills.
-
- Open Forum believes that sharing skills and knowledge is an important
- way to understand and promote change in ourselves and in society.
-
- Open Forum is an independent educational project and is not aligned
- with any political party or movement. It is designed to cultivate
- independent and critical politics among its participants. Open Forum
- welcomes the involvement of all, especially of the many communities
- which contribute to the ethnic and cultural diversity of the Bay Area.
-
- Discussion groups are organized to promote collective discussion and
- create a supportive atmosphere in contrast to the traditional and
- hierarchical teacher/student format. Participants are encouraged to
- shape and facilitate the discussion. And we encourage and invite all to
- work with Open Forum in forming a discussion group.
-
- We're based upon the commitment and work of our volunteers as no one is
- paid. Our work depends upon your support. For each discussion group we
- request a donation of $10 to $50 to defray expenses, although no one
- will be turned away for lack of funds. We will help share costs for
- child care for conveners and participants. Our offices are wheel-chair
- accessible.
-
- Open Forum makes all decisions at our general meetings. Meetings are
- held once a month, on the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m., at
- the Open Forum office and are open to all. We encourage and welcome
- your participation.
