- I didn't know it was a crime to have a couple of accounts! Oh and
- sorry my fault, I picked up the wrong sig at the time. :-(
- I hope the sig at the bottom is to your liking :-)
-

-
- >Glad you added this line. 8^) My responses in the same vain.

-
- Well really; could all this be taken as serious!
- See penultimate comment :-)
- My response is below.

-
- Firstly, touche' on your "offerr" for a personal spell checker.
- Secondly on your fine attempt at the word "transmissions".
- Well, I think I have answered your "Why?".. It saves unnecessary
- bandwidth.
-
- As for me I must have been thinking of merrit to the Max - I didn't
- come down in the last meteor shower !
- I could possibly accuse the keyboard, I was using at the time, but I
- thought it would be more fun to see if anyone noticed the OB spelling
- mistake. :-)

-
- Yes, some of them do, which adds to my other point about costs below.
- $150, is that the modem or does this include the radio?? Either way
- where are these $150, 9600 modems, if that is really what you meant.
- As for your comment "all new equipment" are you that naive that
- ALL cbers will buy new equipment and not start building modems (non
- type approved, I guess) or continue modifying their radios, as is
- quite common, if you have a listen around the bands !!
-
-
-
- >Yeah, and why not enforsce a rule that kids with new car licenses can only buy
- ^^^^^^^^
- >1963 volkswagons, or that first time computer users can only buy 1982 PC's with
- >16K of RAM??
-
- For the obvious reason; so they have a bit of a play and if they like
- what packet does, they can upgrade to the amateur ranks and enjoy
- greater throughput by faster speeds for starters. It is an incentive.
- If you let cbers have packet et al they will have no incentive to
- upgrade along with the benefits of legally modifying their own
- equipment and not being stuck with, often, quite expensive black-box
- equipment.
-
- On your analogy it seems OK for kids with a new license to go out and
- buy a Ford GT-HO Phase III, without any thought for there lack of
- driving ability or aptitude with other users of the road ! Buying one
- would prove the point. Similarly the band would become a shambles with
- inexperienced cbers transmitting merrily away with no knowledge of
- any radio theory. Listen to either cb band to prove the point.
-
- On your analogy for 1982 PC's with 16K RAM, quite a lot of amateurs
- are now upgrading(???) from C64's or VZ200's to 1982 PC's because
- they do the majority of ham things, they want, and are CHEAP !! Some
- people give 'em away. Gee, one fellow upgraded from a telex machine !!
- (guess who vk2kfu)
-
-
-
- >You have missed a little of the stream here, CBer Packet is off the shelf not
- >u-build.
-
- OK point taken, but I did say in my original post that I did not
- rx the org post as it expired. :-( Also if you weren't aware amateur
- 'can' modify their equipment or build it if they want. The whole
- idea is to experiment. It's the nature of the beast.
-
- ***
- Oh and yes.............still in a light hearted vein.
-
- BTW, you forgot to mention the rotten line over-runs in my last post.
- It was originally typed up on my machine at werk that isn't restricted
- to 80 columns. Gee I must fix that one day. Anyway my sincere and
- humble apologies. I have chastised myself severely and do hope that
- It will not happen again. hee hee hee!
-
-
-
- Cheers and have a nice day Craig de Rod
