  25. If you read a previous posting of mine, (it did get out didn't it?)
  26. you will see that not all letters were used.  The US system does,
  27. but not the old Oz system.

  35. J = 4
  36. L = 5
  37. M = 6
  38. U = 7

  43. When I grew up in Wollongong:
  44. The manual number was 873
  45. The first automatic number was B4473  (all manual 8 prefixes became B44)
  46. Then leters were phased out, to give 2 4473
  47. Then they needed more numbers (also, I think this was about the time
  48. of the introduction of STD) so the number changed to 29 4473
  49.  
  50. Sydney, being a much bigger place than Wollongong, had prefixes of
  51. two letters, and then 4 digits
