  17. Clearly the use of 'I doubt that' here means 'I'm afraid that...'
  18. or 'I have no doubt that...'

  21. "I doubt it would be within their means".

  23. Is the use above strange?  The original poster like me is Scots,
  24. so that doesn't really give me any clues as to where this usage
  25. came from.
