- Several months ago, I visited Australia for the
- first time. My first week there, my husband and I were
- at Flinder Street station in Melbourne, waiting
- for the next train to Berwick. The train
- was scheduled to arrive in about 7 minutes,
- and I had to go to the bathroom/restroom/toilet.
- I spotted a train employee (an older man working
- at one of the platforms), and I went up to him
- and asked him where the nearest restroom was.
- ``No restrooms near here,'' he said, ``but there's
- an old toilet in a box over on platform 1 that you can use.''
- He then preceded to give me directions to platform 1,
- which I didn't hear because I was too freaked out
- imagining the old toilet in a box.
- My husband, who is Australian, got quite a kick
- out of my reaction.
