  12. I don't get CC, so until the recent post I had no idea what the Sampo really 
  13. was.  But now that I know it is "little more than a ROCK SALT VENDING MACHINE" 
  14. I can place an earlier appearance.
  15.      In an old Popeye cartoon, back when they were good (which is much longer 
  16. than most of us on this group have been alive), there was a plot in which 
  17. Whimpy (I think) gets a magic salt cellar, and it churns out gold for him.  The
  18. Sea Hag nabs it and commands it to make gold for her.  But unfortunately for 
  19. her, it is sapient and recognizes her evil, so churns out salt.  LOTS of salt.
  20. Overflowing the Hag's island and into the sea.  And that's How The Seas Got 
  21. Salty.  Could this be the Sampo?
  22.      Dave Van Domelen, maybe it was a Popeye-protrayed historicicle charikter 
  23. who had the Sampo....
