- I guess the moon and stars just haven't been in alignment for me. You
- may recall I just had the fin replaced on my 6'6" thruster, well, I caught
- my first wave on the newly fixed board out at Pleasure Point (27th street?)
- on a dusk patrol last Saturday. This had not been a familiar break for me
- until then, when I became intimately aware of where the reef begins as I
- landed my board straight on the rock and continued head first over the
- nose. This not only left a nice 4" crack on the bottom of the board, but
- also succeeded in confirming my wife's suspicion's on my surfing abilities
- as this was one of those rare occasions where she was actually watching.
- To quote her brother, who also was watching and lives down there, "You
- don't usually see surfers fall off in front of their boards." At least,
- not after they've caught the wave anyway.
-
- So this leads me in a roundabout way to my question of the day. Are
- there any special tips for patching up my board. I've already gotten
- some practice from patching my green behemoth but I wasn't too concerned
- with the quality of the result there. I don't know if water got in the
- board but I'm letting it dry for a few days anyway. There's an ugly
- brown streak where the glass is cracked, is there a way to get back the
- original color? And how do the pros get their patches to be (a) almost
- invisible, and (b) so smooth? Any advice (other than to quit surfing) will
- be gratefully accepted.
